In addition to engraving eggs I also do stained glass artwork. I was first taught the art of stained glass when I attended Edinburgh College of Art and Design in Scotland. I had majored in tapestry weaving and minored in stained glass but began to really look forward to my Fridays in the glass department. It was a huge contrast to the constraints of tapestry weaving and I loved the physicality of it. Here, I could build a panel in a matter of days, and loved the vibrancy of the colors of the glass as the sunshine shone through it. I loved the whole process, from the cutting of the glass, to the leading and puttying. It was messy, raw and at times bloody, but it made my heart sing.
I like to make my own patterns, so get my inspiration from nature, and also use a lot of celtic imagery in my work. Sometimes, a particular piece of glass inspires me to build a design around it to showcase its beauty. Living in West Virginia is a treat as there are still glass factories here that make the most stunning art glass! I still bleed every now and again, but still love it!
