Welcome to my Blog! I’ve been told I like to hear the sound of my own voice, so this shouldn’t be too difficult.
Empty pages, unmarked canvasses, blank patterns and pristine eggs all have one thing in common: they are awaiting the inspiration, intention, skillĀ and action needed to make them into something worthy of attention. Hopefully this blog will not disappoint!
I’ve been an artist all my life in one form or another. When I was a child I was asked that inevitable question,”What do you want to be when you grow up?” I immediately replied that I wanted to be a carpet maker! How strange! I think that thought was in mind when I chose to specialize in Tapestry Weaving when I was at Art College. I was primarily drawn to the tactile nature of working with fiber and was fascinated by the medieval tradition of tapestry weaving. It still resonates with me very deeply, but I have since turned my artistic attention to another medieval skill, that of stained glass. The purity of sunlight streaming through a colored piece of glass can be breathtaking…
I also carve eggs. Weird, I know, but also very satisfying. I have found that there is actually a lot of interest in carved and painted eggs, primarily ostrich eggs, and I get requests for the most unusual things at times, so egg-carving can lead me down some unusual paths!
For the past 4 years or so I have been learning to paint with oils through my connection with Workshops in France, a venture devoted to taking artists from around the world to paint in France. Again, my artistic horizons have been expanded in a way that I could not have foreseen. I do, indeed lead a blessed life!
I intend to use this blog to document my adventures in both my creative endeavors and my life as a trans-Atlantic traveler.
